This Antique glass is called Slag glass, also known as marble glass or malachite glass, and it’s a type of opaque, streaked pressed glass. Production of slag glass originated in late-19th-century England, where glass manufacturers are thought to have added slag from iron-smelting works to molten glass to create a range of effects—from tortoiseshell to marbling. The variations in color and depth that slag glass provides make this style of glass ideal for windows and lamps, providing privacy in windows yet allowing light into rooms.

They have been stored for over 22 years since I inherited them from my moms estate. They have minor wear and are very solid, heavy well executed artisan pieces, not flimsy thin glass, and there is a very minor hairline fracture on the right side pictured on one of them that’s faint to the eye and small.

The center white glass on one shows wear and slight separation from the soldered iron top above the glass . These are older , beautiful quality, and make for great decorator pieces. I’ve photographed both sides for you to view , and to see the handmade iron hooks at the top of each one .
