Signed vintage signature

James Z. George. (1826-1897). American politician known as "The Great Commoner." He served as a colonel in the confederacy, spending his last two years as prisoner of war. In 1879 he was appointed to the Mississippi Suptreme Court and was immediately elected chief justice. In 1881 he was elected to the U. S. Senate and held this office until his death. Throughout his seenatorial career, George consistently fought Federal interference in Mississippi affairs. 6.75x3 album sheet signed in ink circa 1885. "J. George Miss." In very good condition. For context, the last edition of The Sanders Price Guide to Autographs does not list a signature but values a letter signed at $250. A rare Civil War signature.
