Here we have an antique aesthetic-movement oval platter Ralph Hammersley and Sons (England) in the blue transferware pattern known as Pandora, featuring swallows or starlings (or some other sort of song bird,) branches bursting with cherry blossoms, butterflies, and lots of Art Nouveau swirls, swags and such. We have only ever seen this platter in brown, and very few other pieces in blue, so we believe it to be quite scarce. Please see our store for other fabulous pieces of ironstone and transferware in our store, to which we try to add new inventory daily. We're always happy to combine shipping at actual cost. Simply request a combined shipping invoice when you're done shopping with us, and wait to pay until you've received it.

Vintage: Registration number 28356 dates it to production year 1896

Maker/Marks: Ralph Hammersley and Songs/please see photos of back for mark

Condition: Our photographs reveal the condition best -- please enlarge and zoom in on them, and examine them carefully. We often add graphics such as arrows, circles, and text boxes to our photos to point out things of interest that might be hard to see, such as a price tag or maker's mark, as well as to highlight many condition flaws. Very fresh and clean, with no cracks, and only a few small surface flakes along the rim, technically chips but soft and only a light layer removed from the top glaze. These are located in a position suggesting that they were caused by a metal plate hanger digging into them. An small impact divot at the very top along the border. These three flaws are highlighted in the collage photo that is the last of the photos. Widespread crazing, with that in the lower left quadrant being stained enough to show more prominently than in the other quadrants, so look for it in that spot in particular. No other types of stains, and no silver/gray utensil marks. No deep scratches that can be felt, just the very light, completely colorless kind affecting the topmost glaze only, the kind that can be seen only when the piece is held up at just the right angle to a direct source of bright light.

We consider funky odors (cigarette smoke, mildew, etc) to be an important part of a condition report. Corndogcache is a 100% non-smoking environment, and we'll let you know if any of our vintage items smell like it (or anything else) from activities they may have been involved in before they came to us.
