This is a very rare and quite beautiful artefact dating from around 1700 or perhaps even earlier. The gilt wood carving in Churrigueresque Hispanic Baroque style was most likely the decorative crest on South American ecclesiastical panelling. The large crest is fabulously hand carved and has wonderful water gilding still in great condition. There is a carved polychrome cherub to the crest and a central beautifully carved and gilded sun set on original mirrored panel. The sunburst motif is  characteristic of Baroque church design. The crest makes a great decorative piece and measures 104 cms wide by 43 cms tall. It is in very good original condition.
