Born in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan.One of Japan's leading sculptors, his works have always been highly acclaimed.He was awarded the Order of Culture in 1958, Honorary Chairman of Nitten in 1974, honorary citizen of Tokyo in 1980.He is the creator of the famous "Peace Prayer Statue" in Nagasaki's Peace Park, a statue of a man with his right hand pointing to the sky and his left hand extended horizontally, created to pray for the repose of the souls of the victims of the atomic bomb and for lasting peace.
