I purchased this from a world traveling, avid chess collector in the 1990's. He told me he purchased it in India in the 1950's. That's the extent of what I know about this unique chess table top. My guess is that most of the elaborate inlay is mother of pearl. Do not know the type of wood. Two of the small pieces from the black squares are missing. I don't know if the black inlay is stained wood or some other substance. The white square inlays vary in coloration from pure white to a yellowish tome that matches the inlays on the exteriors. Very elaborate and beautifully done. It does show some wear but you'd expect that for the age. I have no idea about a date of creation. Clearly it was a table top. Does not include a pedestal. Squares measure 1.75" and top measures 23 inches across. A showpiece for any collection
