Ritter, 1963, syns. include Copiapoa humilis, (Phil.) Hutchinson (L.A.) 1953, Copiapoa humilis var. tenuissima, G. J. Charles, 1998.  While this has been named C. humilis is the past, is closely related and shares some of the same range, it is different and is truely an accepted seperate species, not just a variety or subspecies. A native of Chile, the Antofagasta, Atacama desert. Listed as by some as "Common" and by others as "Unusual in collections". Somewhat cold tolerant, but should be protected from frost. A good bloomer produces good sized yellow flowers, sets seed easily, this plant with several fruits at time of listing. We have had the group of these for many years, they are slow growers.  Aprox. 1 inche tall and 2 1/8 wide max.
