Murano glass is handmade on the island of Murano, which lies in the Venetian Lagoon close to Venice itself.  Glasswork artists have been working on Muano since the 14th Century, when glassmaking was located on the island, due to the fire risk.

Made using traditional lampworking techniques, many of the beads are lined with either 24k gold or sterling silver, which gives the beads their distinctive beauty.
