The Moorland Cottage, Elizabeth Gaskell, 1850, Chapman & Hall, Birket Foster. Presumed 1st Edition. Interesting title - early work by Gaskell that is relatively scarce. Also one of the first jobs undertaken by Foster, which explains why his name is spelt incorrectly. Book is in pretty good condition. Boards have some wear but are generally in good shape. Gold edging on pages, but a bit worn on the top edge. Name inscription on inside front. A few stains inside but generally clean. It's a tight copy, so I can't see any issue with missing pages or illustrations. I appreciate the price is quite high on this book so feel free to contact me with questions about condition prior to bidding. A copy sold at Sotheby's in 2016 for around £1000 excluding commission.
