RCA conversion kit for SME 3009 Series 2 Improved - please note this kit is for the earliest 3009 Series 2 Improved tonearm, this was produced with spring fingers that held the screen can in place, (the 2nd variant has a screw that holds the screen can in place and deletes the spring fingers), this kit is NOT suitable for the 2nd variant.

All of the 3rd party conversion kits currently available attach a plate and panel mount RCA connectors to the existing angle bracket of the tonearm, this not only adds extra depth to the base of the tonearm, but also creates an extra projection past the envelope of the screen can, the disadvantages of these issues are

1) If your turntable is low profile it may not be possible to fit the arm with the additional depth due to a clash with the turntable base.

2) The added projection of RCA's past the envelope of the screen can, may prevent the tonearm from being mounted through the armboard aperture, requiring the RCA panel to be removed and re-secured once the arm has been fitted.

This kit overcomes both of the above issues identified, by placing the RCA connectors in their correct position and keeping them within the space envelope of the screen can.

The kit contains

1) An assembled RCA PCB, it has 4 holes which the wires are soldered through or onto the pads,

2) Two spacing tubes

3) One extended fixing screw, to allow the earth tag to be secured under it when assembled,

4) Three packers, the solid packer can be placed either on the left or right side, to allow the earth cable tag to be positioned whichever side is your preference.

Image 5 shows the converted Series 2 Improved tonearm, in comparison to a later Series 3 can assembly, the depth of the whole assembly is slightly deeper, due to the earth fixing needing to project past the can base.

Please study the modification instructions shown to be sure you have have the skills and confidence to perform the modification before purchase.
