This lot contains a USS Akron/Macon memorial crash cover (not flown) from May 30, 1935, as described below. The postmarks and cachets commemorate the passing of the USS Macon over various locations or Navy ships. As the USS Macon and USS Akron were military vessels, little, if any, mail was carried after the first few flights of the Akron in 1932 and two flights - one in 1933 and one in 1934 - by the Macon.

This cover commemorates the crash of the USS Akron on April 4,1933, and the USS Macon on February 12, 1935.

The USS Reina Mercedes was originally a Spanish Navy ship.  In the 1930's, she was the station ship for Annapolis, Maryland, and the Navy Academy.

Cover included:

5/30/1935, USS Reina Mercedes, Annapolis, MD, postmark with hand drawn Eugene Mueller cachet, Ullmann/Mellone's #35.1 variation.  Mueller did a few variations of the cachet.  The cover has a sealed flap.

Condition is as shown in the pics.  The cover shows some toning but is in nice shape.

Ullmann/Mellone's values the cover at $30.00
