On offer: an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) antique map "Cumberland".  The map has early outline colour.  

DATE PRINTED: 1805 (dated on the print).

SIZE: The printed area including titles is approx. 7.25" x 9.5" (18.5 cm x 24 cm).

ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER:  Engraved by Roper from a drawing by Cole. George Cole was a cartographer and draughtsman. John Roper (1771-1810) an engraver.

PROVENANCE:  A plate first published in Cole's "The British Atlas " in 1804 and subsequently in "English Topography" between 1816 and 1827.  The maps then appeared, updated with the railways and plate numbers, in Dugdale's "Curiosities of Great Britain: England & Wales Delineated." published between 1835 until 1842 when the maps were replaced with new plates engraved by Archer. On offer is an example from the original British Atlas publication.

TYPE: Antique copper plate engraving printed on paper.

VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.

CONDITION: Good. Suitable for framing. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. Virtually all antiquarian maps and prints are subject to some normal aging due to use and time which is not significant unless otherwise stated.
