Here we have a scarce square handled cake (or other dessert) serving plate/tray/dish in the Liverpool Birds pattern from Wedgwood, a black transferware version of the Chelsea Bird theme. In production for well over 100 years, from 1840 to 1967, there are many variations of the Chelsea birds transfer pattern on the various pieces of Liverpool Birds. The transfer variation on this plate is often referred to as "two flying birds." We have lots of fabulous antique, vintage and contemporary transferware in our store, to which we add new inventory daily, and we're always happy to combine shipping at actual cost.

Please see our store for more pieces in the Liverpool Birds pattern, including square-ish dessert plates, and a round dinner plate.

Vintage: circa 1950s-1960s

Maker/Markings: Wedgwood/see photos of back of plate

Approximate extreme measurements: please see photos with rulers

Condition: Our photos show the condition best and are the most important part of the description. Please enlarge and zoom in them to view the condition for yourself. There are lots and lots of reflections in our photos -- if you have any questions about reflection vs. damage, please ask! Very clean, bright, and glossy, in very nice condition for its age. No cracks, chips, or utensil marks. Front has two or three very small and light, completely colorless, scratches to the glaze can be seen under very close inspection when the plate is held up at just the right angle to a direct source of light. Back has two spots with impact points to the raised foot only. Even so, plate resets firmly on the foot, with no wobbles. See photos highlighting those two spots on the foot.  A few patches with light crazing that can be seen when under close inspection but isn't otherwise noticeable.

We consider funky odors (cigarette smoke, mildew, etc) to be an important part of a condition report. Corndogcache is a 100% non-smoking environment, and we'll let you know if any of our vintage items smell like it (or anything else) from activities they may have been involved in before they came to us.
