Fluid damper kit for SME Series V, IV, 309, 310, 312 tonearms

This 3d printed damper mounts in the same way as the SME kit FD-IV which is almost impossible to purchase now, as SME have stopped selling tonearms concentrating on their turntables.

If you know the FD-IV kit you will be aware that the damper only damps the radial action of the tonearm and not the arm tube, which is how this damper kit functions.

Damping fluid is not provided with this kit, but it 60,000cst silicone oil can be purchased via eBay if you search for RC Core silicone oil. The silicone oil is filled to the height of the narrower section of the silicone tank and not into the wider section.

Fitting is an easy operation, you will require a 1.5mm hex key to remove your existing bearing cover, the lower tank is then loosely fitted using the supplied fixings, once both are engaged into the threads on the armrest structure they can be secured, but must not be overtightened as this could damage the damper tank, the upper damper can then be secured using the supplied fixings, securing into the bearing cover holes, and then the supplied thumbscrew and locknut screwed into upper damper. Filling of the tank can then be performed, and the damping effect of the kit adjusted by screwing the thumbscrew into the damping fluid.

Although the Lower tank has a blind hole in the position of the VTA adjuster, the feature is not offered on my damper kit, The user can drill the 2mm hole through and then tap the hole to M2.5 and screw the M2.5 x 80mm supplied screw in the hole and use this feature (placing a pad under the end of the screw to prevent the end of the screw damaging the coating where the screw contacts the base of the tonearm). However this is done at the users risk. If the clamp has not be sufficiently loosened and the arm assy does not slide up and down easily, then the lower damper will be damaged when the screw is used to adjust the VTA, and if the hole has been drilled through then I wont accept any return, as the part will have been modified, so please note it is the users own risk to do this.

I have a Silver version of this kit, so please look at my other listings if you would like this in silver.

Any questions then please ask.
