• Penn International VI Electric Detachable

New 2023 Model -
INT 80VISWDM

The Hooker Electric PENN International Detachable reels share all the same great features as the Standard reels, which means speeds of 500 feet per min with full variable speed at the turn of the dial. The main bene t though is the electric drive unit is fully detachable from the reel. This allows the angler to drop and retrieve the rig quickly, but when you get the bite, “off comes the drive” and you’re ready to fight the fish manually. Built from Aircraft-grade Aluminum construction right here in the USA, these reels are built tough to last a lifetime.

Features:

• Reel features are the same as the standard International VI series
• 6061 Aluminum Billet Construction
• Powerful 2HP Brushless 12/24V DC Motor
• Full Variable Speed Control
• Retains Ability to Manually Crank Line
• Detachable Drive with Spring Loaded Push Pin Release
• Made in the USA of domestic and imported components

Hooker Electric FAQs & Useful Tips

Hooker Electric Spooling Tips:
  • Mono backing isn’t required but recommended if running braid.
  •     When filling the spool, it is advised to remove the level wind (where applicable) for the first ¾ of the spool and spread manually as the level wind does not lay line 100% perfect meaning it could cause uneven line lay if done early on. Motor can be used from start to spool the reel.
  • When running the motor to spool the reel, run on low-medium speed to control line lay and ensure there is adequate tension as you normally would to ensure line lays on firmly.

How many amps does the Hooker Electric draw under full power?

  • It is capable of drawing 30AMPS continuously but usually it draws no more than 22AMPS on normal operation. Hooker Electric reels equipped with dual motors can draw up to 60 amps under full load.

How do I switch to manual mode?

You can still reel-in the fish manually as the Hooker Electric retains all the mechanical component of the handle.

  •     Disconnect the reel from the power source.
  •     Lock the handle into low gear.
  •     Fight fish as desired.

What gauge wire is required to power the Hooker Electric reel?

From the reel to the plug it needs to be 10-gauge at 12-feet long. Should a longer cable be needed then it requires at least 8-gauge wire up to 15 extra feet, and 6-gauge wire up to 30 extra feet.

Does the counter on my Hooker Electric count metres of line out?

The counter on your Hooker Electric counts revolutions of the reel spool as opposed to the metres of line out.

 WIRING RECOMMENDATIONS

***Use a minimum of 8-gauge tinned wire (6 is recommended), between the battery and female plug***

  •     We recommend using a 30 amp resettable breaker between the female plug and the battery with proper terminal connections.
  •     Install the breaker closest to the battery as possible on the positive side.
  •     Very Important: Red wire is positive, the black wire is negative. DO NOT wire backwards, this will damage the reel.

We recommend using a separate deep cycle battery, to ensure you don’t deplete your  boat battery while fishing.

PLUG RECOMMENDATIONS

Hubble 30A 28VDC, male end- HBL328DCP, female end- HBL328DCR

Do I have to use the plug provided with the reel?

No. You don’t have to use the plug provided with the Hooker Electric reels, however, you will void ALL warranty when using a plug other than the one included i.e. changing to Anderson plug and re-wiring the unit. This also applies to any other modification of the product itself (refer to PENN warranty page for more information).

How do I setup a Hooker Electric reel?

  •     Place the handle in the neutral position. (this can be determined if the handle can spin in both directions freely)
  •     Place the variable speed control knob in the full counter clockwise position. (OFF)
  •     Plug the reel into the 12volt power source.
  •     Listen for a series of beeps, then a 3 second pause, followed by a second beep. The reel is now ready for use.
  •     There are 2 options for the speed control: Option #1 – the variable speed control knob mounted on the side of the reel. Option #2 (where applicable) - The wireless remote control has 2 speeds: A button- Half speed. B button – full speed.

Speed Recommendations

  •     The full speed option should be used to retrieve bait with no fish, setting the hook, or to keep up with a fast-rising fish.
  •     Half speed or less is recommended, while fighting a fish. The speed can be determined by the individual fighting their fish.
  •      If reel has been fully spooled with monofilament line with no braid, it is recommended to not over exceed reel speed especially on a larger fish under extreme load or when the fish is running as this may (in some cases) cause spool contortion and ultimately reel failure.

Reel maintenance.

  •     Minimize exposure to extreme salt spray. (Even though the reel is completely sealed)
  •     Rinse down reel after every use with soap and water then dry thoroughly.
  •     Avoid pulling the reel apart – if you suspect damage or wish to service the internals of the reel bring this to a recognised service dealer or return to Pure Fishing service department to prevent damaging the reel which may void your warranty.

Can I fight the fish manually?

Yes. With the Hooker Electric detachable reels, you are able to fight the fish manually.

Can you still hand crank reels with Autostop feature?

Yes. On Hooker Electric reels equipped with the Autostop feature, you can still use the manual handle in low gear to hand crank.

Do your reels equipped with the Autostop feature come with a remote?

The Hooker Electric reels equipped with the Autostop feature does NOT come with a traditional RF remote, however, the Bluetooth capability takes over the duties of the remote control with the use of our “Reel Time” app available at Apple’s App Store.

Can I use my Hooker Electric Autostop with an Android phone or device?

No. The Bluetooth capability is included on Hooker Electric reels equipped with the Autostop feature and the “Reel Time” app is only available for iOS devices. The “ReelTime” app is available at the Apple App Store.

How strong is the drag / clutch on dual motor reels (International 130 only)?

The drag or clutch on the Hooker Electric reels equipped with dual motors is 110 lbs/50kg.

What warranty applies to my Hooker Electric Reel?

On your Hooker Electric reel there are two components – the PENN International reel and the Hooker motor and electronics. PENN will still provide its 10 year reel warranty to the International reel component whilst the Hooker Electric component of the reel will attract a 1 year warranty. Refer to the warranty links above for more information. Note only PENN reels powered by Hooker Electric are covered by Pure Fishing ANZ i.e. we do not cover any Shimano Hooker Electric reels.
