WW1- WWII Trench Art.

Promotional Tobacco Silk (from Imperial Tobacco) Cushion. Unique folk art.

A remarkable patchwork made from the promotional silks that were included in the sales of Imperial Tobacco 's pouch tobacco. This collection is of the flags of the Nations that composed the Entente Cordiale. Notice the smaller nations of belligerents in the composition. Worthy of mention are Ireland (despite the Easter Uprising of 1916); the South American States that were neutral except for Brazil; Iceland had 1,200 combattants on the Western Front; Hayti (sp??) Declared war on Germany in July of 1918 due to excessive submarine presence in the Caribbean.

There is considerable wear to the cushion but the visual of the piece is not lost. Framing would consolidate the image.
