Informationen zu Komponist, Werken und Musikern Antoine Brumel (auch Brummel, Brommel, Brunello) (* um 1460 in der Diözese Laon; † nach 1513 in Italien) war ein franko-flämischer Komponist, Sänger und Kleriker der Renaissance. Die genaue Herkunft von Antoine Brumel ist bisher unbekannt geblieben. Während seine erste Anstellung in Chartres zu der Vermutung führte, er könnte aus dem in dieser Diözese gelegenen Dorf Brunelles stammen, deutet eine von Brumel selbst stammende Aussage über sich als „clericus Laudunensis“ auf einen Geburtsort in der Diözese Laon nordöstlich von Paris hin. Um 1502 muss sich brumel auf dem Höhepunkt seiner Bekanntheit befunden haben, wofür insbesondere die Veröffentlichung eines Bandes mit Messen von Brumel durch den Musikverleger Ottaviano dei Petrucci im Jahr 1503 spricht. Diese Ehre wurde nur den berühmtesten Komponisten der damaligen Zeit zuteil. Antoine Brumel war zu Lebzeiten bei seinen Zeitgenossen hoch geschätzt und galt noch im ganzen 16. Jahrhundert zusammen mit Josquin, Jacob Obrecht, Heinrich Isaac und anderen als besonderes musikalisches Vorbild. Brumels Werke zeigen eine souveräne Beherrschung des Kontrapunkts und ein beachtlich ausgeprägtes Verständnis für modale Zusammenhänge. In seinem Gesamtwerk nehmen die geistlichen Kompositionen einen herausragenden Rang ein, während die weltlichen Werke diese Bedeutung nicht erreichen. Diese zeichnen sich jedoch durch Qualität und stilistische Vielfalt aus. Paul Van Nevel (* 4. Februar 1946 in Hasselt) ist ein belgischer Dirigent, Musikwissenschaftler und Kunsthistoriker. Schwerpunkt seiner Arbeit ist die polyphone Chormusik des späten Mittelalters und der Renaissance. In einer musikliebenden Familie aufgewachsen, sang Van Nevel bereits als Jugendlicher täglich bis zu vier Stunden. Außerdem regte der Vater ihn an, alle Musikinstrumente zu erlernen, die sich im Haushalt befanden. Paul Van Nevel begann seine Musikstudien am Maastrichter Konservatorium, bevor er von 1969 bis 1971 an der Schola Cantorum Basiliensis studierte. Dort gründete er 1970 das Huelgas-Ensemble. Der Name des Ensembles verweist auf das Zisterzienserkloster Santa María la Real de Las Huelgas im Westen von Burgos, wohin der junge Musikwissenschaftler als 24-Jähriger mit einem Empfehlungsschreiben von belgischen Stellen reiste und auf ein dort von ihm studiertes Manuskript polyphoner Musik, den Codex Las Huelgas.
