The three XKan, a term coined by Joe Maurantonio in mid1995, are systems of traditional Japanese martial arts with their roots in the teachings of Toshitsugu Takamatsu. The founders of both the Genbukan Shoto Tanemura, and Jinenkan Manaka Unsui, were both students of Masaaki Hatsumi before forming their respective schools. Toshitsugu Takamatsu was born on 10 March 1889 in Akashi, Hyogo province, Japan and died on 2 April 1972. He was a martial artist who taught and formed many next generation Grandmasters of various martial art traditions. Toshitsugu Takamatsu, also known as Moko no Tora, was a Sensei, a teacher, of martial arts. Recognized as the last practicing ninja, he was employed as such by the emperors of both Japan and China. Born in 1887 into a family of samurai lineage, he was taught by his grandfather, Masamitsu Toda, a phenomenal warrior, from whom Takamatsu Sensei inherited the martial art systems of Shinden Fudo Ryu, Gyokko Ryu, Togakure Ryu, and Koto Ryu.
