Due to the depletion of fossil fuels and other environmental issues, there is always a need to come up with new energy policies and legislation that could help bring sustainable energy development to Africa. As a result of that, some energy policies from Europe are compared to the existing policies that are being used in Africa. Some of the comparisons are from those countries that have progressed with their renewable energy market such as the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Finland, Demark, Sweden etc. Their policies are compared and see whether some of them can be applied to most African countries. Energy policy, energy security and environmental development go handinhand in their importance. They are cheap energy, clean energy, affordable energy and environmentally friendly. Our environment needs to be protected as well as our wellbeing. Most of the energy produced is being used in either the transportation sector or electricity generation. Therefore, there is a need to diversify our energy generation from other available renewable sources such as biomass that is being used to produce biooil from fast pyrolysis and hydrothermal liquefaction.
