These are Iron Meteorites consisting of an iron -nickel alloy and are thought to be the fragments of the cores of larger ancient asteroids that have been shattered by impacts.

Iron meteorites are resistant to weathering.  They are much more likely to survive atmospheric entry, and are more resistant to the resulting ablationThey can be found even when buried in the Sahara sand by use of surface metal detecting equipment, due to their metallic composition.

A magnet will be attracted to this Sahara Desert meteorite due to its iron content.
