Continuum Reef Basis Liquid KH Buffer 250mL
Professional liquid alkalinity boosting pH & KH control system for all marine fish & reef aquaria.
Continuum
Reef Basis Liquid KH Buffer is a high quality, multi-component blended
true buffering system designed to raise the alkalinity or buffering
capacity of marine fish and reef aquariums and automatically regulate
the pH. It will hold pH stable over a wide range of conditions providing
for safety of the entire system.
Use in aquarium keeping:
Proper
control of pH is one of the most critical functions of a marine fish or
reef aquarium. If you only measure one paramether of your aquarium,
measure the alkalinity! It is the most important one. If pH is allowed
to drop due to decay of organic matter, over saturation with carbon
dioxide or any type of acid addition, then the animals will suffer and
if it drops too much, they will become ill or die. Continuum recommends
that you maintain an alkalinity level of 7 to 11 dKH (2.5 to 4 meq/L)
and a pH of 8.3. Note: Aquarists keeping SPS corals should consider
keeping alkalinity at 7 to no more than 9 dKH (2.5 to 3.21 meq/L). Do
not add simultaneously with calcium or mineral supplements, wait a few
minutes and allow for plenty of circulation prior. By waiting, you will
avoid unnecessary precipitation and possible cloudiness.
Directions and protocol:
Shake
well prior to use. Add 1 capful (5 ml) per 25 US-gallons ( 95 L ) of
marine aquarium water 3 to 4 times per week. For best results, measure
the alkalinity and add as necessary to maintain the desired alkalinity
between 8 and 11 dKH (2.9 to 4 meq/L).
Expert use:
Dosing
through use of a separate drip system is a superior method of addition.
Two dosing systems are required to dose basis KH liquid simultaneously
with calcium supplements and most other additives. Do not mix basis KH
liquid with calcium or mineral supplements prior to addition. Determine
the amount of alkalinity consumption during the time it takes add the
entire volume of your drip system. Determine the amount of basis KH to
add in milliliters by multiplying your tank capacity in gallons by the
amount you want to raise it in meq/L and by 1.0 or in dKH by .357
(Example: if you have a 50 gallon tank and you want to raise the level
by 1 meq/L with the entire dose, you would multiply 50 x 1 which equals
50 ml of basis KH liquid or 10 capfuls. Or if you want to raise it by 1
dKH, you would multiply 50 x .357 = 17.85 ml or about 3-1/2 capfuls.)
