Disston No.8 Rip Saw Vintage Beauty  Pre Civil War Eagle Medallion.
Excellent condition saw with no damage dating from the late 1850's to early 1860's.  The Disstonian Institute states that the company changed its name to "Disston and Son," when the eldest son Hamilton joined the company after his return from the Civil War. This is a pre- "Disston and Son" saw with the pre-Civil War Eagle medallion.  The 28" plate is straight and sharp with a 5 1/2 point pattern.  The Blade is bright and clean and free of pitting.  The nib is intact.  The Applewood handle is in remarkably excellent condition.  The brass button and screws with split nuts are in perfect condition and have a very nice green patina.  A Beautiful and historic saw in outstanding condition.
