Victorian footstool enclosing removable cuspidor/spitoon

 

This all-original stool is hexagonal, with a padded top comprising hand-stitched wool tapestry with stylised floral design on dark red ground, in intact and clean condition.

There is a moulded edge surrounding the pad, and zigzag inlay around the lower body.

All sitting on original ceramic feet.

The lid is hinged, opening onto a hexagonal, fitted treacle-glazed cuspidor, in excellent condition, bar some scratches, with a hole in the centre, and an emptying hole in the side.

Photos show minor defects, including scuffing, minor bits of inlay damage, minor splits, dents, scratches, etc. please look carefully at photos.

A lovely piece of social history!
