Chinese Carved Soapstone Immortal, Qing Dynasty, 19th Century

This hand carved soapstone Chinese woman holding basket with a lily pad and lotus flower is 19th century.

A charming figure of Taoist immortal "He Xian Gu". He Xian Gu, is carved as a female figure dressed in a voluminous robe with hair buns on each side of her head. She holds a basket with a lily pad and lotus flower. 

Carved in two parts the figure and base. the figure carved from a beautiful waxy brown soapstone, with traces of polychrome remaining. 

The base carved and open on both sides shaped as a m for immortal.  Also, if you at the backside she has a carved m like angel wings.

He Xian Gu's LOTUS FLOWER IS BELIEVED TO IMPROVE ONE'S HEALTH, MENTAL, AND PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES. 

Stands 8 1/2 inches tall, width approx 3 inches,  depth 1 3/4 inches
