Listed artist, Joyce Ortner Large Seascape Original Oil on Canvas painting, Bob Ross show The Joy of Painting cast member

A large and beautiful seascape by Joyce Ortner (California 1939-2015) purchased from a California Collection.  Joyce Ortner was a popular Southern California Seascape artist who lived in Carpinteria, CA.  

  Joyce spent many years in Southern California focused on seascape painting. She learned from California painter Hal Reed and painted along with renowned seascape painter Loren Adams in Vancouver, B.C. In addition, for ten years she exhibited her work in the Santa Barbara Art Show selling seascapes to many people around the world.

Ortner shared the things she learned by teaching classes and workshops in community centers, adult education classes, University extension programs and art stores across the country and in Alaska.  On a teaching trip to Alaska, she met Bob Ross, who was so impressed with her seascapes that, after he began his extraordinarily successful TV shows on PBS, "THE JOY OF PAINTING' he invited Ortner to appear on his show as a guest artist. He set up several workshops so he and the people in his company could learn seascape painting. Bob Ross "The Joy of Painting" Season 5 Episode 9 "Anatomy of the wave" guest artist is Joyce Ortner. Bob Ross produced 6 one-hour videos with Joyce Ortner painting seascapes. The success of these videos in 24 counties around the world have made Ortner a popular and sought after teacher and Artist. Artist Ran Ortner is her son also a great artist.  Joyce Ortner and her son Ran Ortner have an incredible ability to capture the anatomy of waves breaking against other waves they are able to paint a kind of fluidity and movement that's visible in their paintings making each of their paintings truly unique. Both Joyce Ortner and Ran Ortner is best known for their realistic and breathtaking paintings of the sea, their work is included in corporate and private collections all over the world. 

This painting is quite large and was painted c 1985 by Joyce Ortner mother of Ran Ortner. The painting is in good over all condition considering its age. The painting only has a few slight scratches on the lower right-hand side ( please see photo 12) and the painting has no other issues.  It has a custom contemporary frame and is ready to hang on the wall. It measures  24" x 36" (unframed) and 32"x 44" (framed). The painting is better in person.
