Unreleased live recordings of the John Coltrane Quintet at Village Gate in August 1961.
That day, the group welcomed Eric Dolphy as their fifth member.
This 90-minute live recording was recently discovered at the New York Public Library.
In addition to the famous songs "My Favorite Things", "Impressions" and "Greensleeves", "When Lights Are Low" by Eric Dolphy's Bass Clarinet and "Africa" composed by Coltrane are also included.
This “Africa” is the only sound source that is not an existing studio recording.
