Order of Saint Januarius

The Order of St. Januarius was founded by King Charles IV on July 6, 1736 in honor of his betrothal to Princess Maria Amalia of Saxony.

They were awarded only to Catholic nobles. Motto: IN SANGUINE FOEDUS "IN THE BLOOD IS UNITY".

After the annexation of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies to the united Italy in 1861, the order was no longer used.
