This is a very nice, "Vintage "KHOLUI" Russian "Swan-Maiden" Inspired Hand Painted Lacquer Box". The box is in amazing conditions, no signs of use or wear, and no scuffs or scratches. The painting/illustration, as well as the rest of the box, is in pristine working condition. I personally do not have much knowledge of these lacquer boxes however, I did try to do my fair share research. I learned this is an authentic box for reasons such as signatures and smell. Regarding signatures, I learned that this lacquer box comes from the village "KHOLUI" as artists from there had a very specific way to distinguish their art. They wrote their signatures in the order of village name to the (left lower) part of the art and artist signature (right lower) part of the art. If you take a look at the photos I posted you'll that's the exact order that this lacquer box is written in. Regarding smell, authentic lacquer boxes are made of paper-mâché, which in 6 months of aging gives off a rich "antique" smell of linseed oil base. My lacquer box gives off that smell on the inside when opened. Please take a real good look at all the photos for a better description of the lacquer box. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message. Thank you for looking have a great day! Tambien hablo Español gracias!
