This is a very nice "Vintage "PALEKH" Russian Lacquer "TROIKA" Signed Hand Painted Storage Box". The condition of this box is great however, the metal bar that is used to keep the box together when it opens is loose, and tends to slip out. Also the top left corner of the box has a light scuff that can only be seen if the box is turned upside down. Other than that the rest of the box (the outside, inside, and design) is in pristine condition, and very gorgeous. I do not have much knowledge of these lacquer boxes however, I did my fair share research. I learned that this may be a PALEKH box, as PALEKH artists sign in the order of, village name (bottom left), title of the art (middle bottom), and artist signature (bottom right). And as shown in the listings pictures it can be seen written in that exact order. This lacquer box shows art of a "тройка", or a troika in English. In Russia a "тройка", is a traditional Russian harness driving combination, using three horses abreast, usually pulling a sleigh. Which if you bring your attention back to the name of the art (the middle bottom writing), it actually describes the art of the lacquer box. Also the box has this sweet smell of linseed to it which actually comes from 6 months of aging. This means this box has a higher chance of being genuine authentic lacquer. Please take a real good look at all the photos for a better description of the lacquer box. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message. Thank you for looking have a great day!
