Annibale Marchese’s “Il Viticondo”
is a rare 18th-century Italian poem written for the wedding of
Charles III King of Spain to Maria Amalia of Saxony. The marriage allowed
Charles III to become King of Naples and Maria Amalia the Queen of Spain,
Naples, and Sicily. Marchese’s poem was popular throughout Europe and became an
icon for celebrating the union of the House of Bourbon and Saxony. This 1738
first edition was published in conjunction with the wedding and is considerably
rare with no other examples found for sale worldwide!
