Trains of the Midwest is the creation of Keith J. Kaplan MD. All the photographs in this book were taken by Dr. Keith Kaplan. The book includes scenes from all over the Midwest. There are over 100 full color pictures of scenes from all over the Midwest and as far away as Oklahoma.

The goal of Trains of the Midwest is to expand upon his previous book Trains of Chicagoland. The book includes more locations around Chicagoland. In addition, there are other locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. A complete list of all the locations are found in the index. Along with the locations, are the type of engine (if included in the picture) and the purpose of the train, freight, commuter, passenger, etc. and the train’s destination.

As a bonus, images from the 2021 Union Pacific Big Boy Tour through Kansas, Oklahoma and southern Illinois are included in Trains of the Midwest.

The author Dr. Kaplan has a previous book, Trains of Chicagoland. The focus of this book was to capture trains from and around Chicagoland. The purpose was to show the diversity and number of trains that could be found in and around the Chicago area.

The author in his forward hopes that you will enjoy the images in this book as much as he enjoyed trying to capture them. If you are a historian, rail enthusiast, or just like beautiful photographs, you will want to add this book to your collection.
