DATE PRINTEDc.1840.  This map was issued between 1833 and 1849.  The absence of railways and the inclusion of the signature indicate an early issue.

SIZE: The printed area of the view, including titles, is approximately 24.5 x 19.5 cm , 9.75 x 7.75 inches (medium) plus margins.  The map has a fold as issued.

ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Published by Archibald Fullarton & Co., Glasgow.  Engraved by Gray & Son.

PROVENANCE: A steel engraving by Robert Scott first published in Bell's New and Comprehensive Gazetteer in 1833. The text for the gazetteer was largely copied from Lewis' Topographical Dictionary of 1831 and in 1839 Lewis obtained an injunction against Bell for plagiarism and the work was withdrawn. Archibald Fullarton, the publisher of Bell's Gazetteer republished the maps with new text in The Parliamentary Gazetteer from 1840 until 1849. This print was published in "The Parliamentary Gazetteer of England and Wales".

TYPE: Antique plate engraving printed on paper.

VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side which is blank.
