WWI Period Original Pen-and-Ink Drawing Of Officers Leaving For The Front

A charmingly sentimental original pen-and-ink drawing on card showing Army Officers saying goodbye to their wives (as well as an anxious-looking scottie dog) at the station. Extremely well executed with a couple of small white gouache highlights. Unsigned and undated, a small label affixed to the reverse bears a recent ink note “JW Jeens Original”. I’ve found no record of a J.W. Jeens, though may possibly be a relative of the Victorian engraver Charles Henry Jeens (1827-79). Most likely used in one of the numerous weekly magazines or newspapers of the period.

Image approx. 290x240mm., overall size approx. 347x268mm., light grime and small stain at upper edge, surface scrape in lower left border. Overall in very good condition and a fine atmospheric drawing.
