Probably Johnathan Richman's best moment after his original Modern Lovers album...here he shocks everybody who had him pegged as a Velvet-Underground-influenced disaffected youth. I saw a live show around this time and was as unprepared as anybody to see him in a happy handpainted t-shirt flying around the stage singing "I'm a little airplane, neoww neoww..."

The songs are terrific and the sheer freshness and beauty of the record makes it indispensible. It's so underrated and was so misunderstood at the time.

Here's a promo copy with DJ timing list on the front cover. The insert includes reviews of his recent live gigs, in an attempt perhaps to re-orient record reviewers (who would be working from these promo copies to write their reviews) and forestall their disappointment or outrage that this is NOT punk althought this IS 1977.

A magic artifact if you ask me.
