Thank you for viewing this beautiful large vintage 13.3k Australian opal pendant/pin.  The listing is for the pendant/pin only.  No chain is included in the purchase.   This item tests under computer analysis as 13.3k.  The opal measures 21x15x5mm.  Its estimated weight is 12 carats.  An important mention is that this opal has no surface exposed breaks or cracks.  Opals can have what appears to be fissures but if they're not open skin exposed they are only that.  Once it's exposed to the surface it becomes a crack or break which thus makes the opal worth less.   The item weights 9.8 grams.  The pendant/ pin comes with an attractive presentation box.

An important thing to mention regarding condition descriptions of antique jewelry is its judgement criteria which is very different than that applied to modern jewelry.  The expectation for modern jewelry classified as being in "excellent' condition is an item that is possibly high polished and in close to new condition.  Antique jewelry is never supposed to be polished.  In fact, polishing antique jewelry can actually diminish its value.  Therefore, patina, mild surface scratches, bruises, nicks and other indications of age can, and depending on the degree, should be present in antique jewelry classified as being in excellent condition.  The more important condition factors to consider in antique jewelry is the integrity of the its structure and its design features such as migraine, setting work, engraving, filigree work, etc.  If a new look with an antique design is what you're looking for, reproduction jewelry would probably be the better option.
