Today I can offer up for sale a really magnificent set of vintage, circa 1920's bookends depicting an iconic likeness of "Abraham Lincoln", which appear to be almost three dimensional. These are high quality bookends manufactured by "Jennings Brothers", who were well known for turning out very high end and quality decorative metal wares. These are wonderfully detailed, and depict a very pensive looking Lincoln on each. They are crafted of what I believe to be sheet bronze, or some other form of non-ferrous metal, and are plaster filled for weight. They both have a very pleasing, almost "chocolate" brown finish, and are each marked at the rear-base "J.B. 1618". They weigh nearly 6 lbs and are quite solid. The only flaw I can ascertain, is a "ding" on the edge of one of them, on the front-side right, (at the level of his eye), where the metal has been pushed in, however the finish appears to remain intact. The bases have no felts, and I'm frankly not sure if they ever did, as I see no evidence of glue or felt residue. They measure roughly 6 3/8 inches tall, 5 inches wide, and 3 1/8 inches from front to back. This is a truly gorgeous pair of vintage Jennings Brothers bookends, and if you collect Lincoln-related memorabilia, or can truly appreciate really high quality vintage decorative metal arts in the form of classic bookends, don't miss this pair. They're really attractive and will certainly enhance any library or wherever they're displayed.
