The Canon AE-1 is a 35 mm single-lens reflex film camera for use with interchangeable lenses. It was manufactured by Canon Camera K. K. in Japan from April 1976 to 1984.

Cameras battery does need to be replaced. I believe it’s a 4LR44 or 4SR44 6V battery. Could be wrong but I think you could just look it up.
