1996 was the 100 years anniversary of AFL/VFL. To celebrate this milestone, Select Australia had released 4 AFL Trading Card Series as follows:

1996 Centenary AFL Series 1.

1996 Centenary AFL Series 2

1996 Centenary AFL Classic Series and

1996 AFL Inaugural Hall of Fame Card Series.

1996 SELECT AFL CLASSIC CARD series is the 4th AFL card series released for the season of 1996. 

16,800 boxes released with 24 packs in each box. The Base Card set is only 100 cards, featuring the top tier players of each team. The cards were printed in a metallic-like finish, really a good quality of AFL trading cards even in today's standard. 

The complete base card set is 100 cards only, Fitzroy, Fremantle and Hawthorn are 6 cards per team, and numbering from 251 to 400 ( continue the Series 1 set). all other clubs are 7 cards per team.

1996 was the final season of Fitzroy Football Club before merged with Brisbane Bears to form the new team Brisbane Lions.
