PowerDsine 4012 is a Power over LAN Hub enabling a unifiedsupply of data, voice, video and power through a single accesspoint by sending power over standard Category 5 twisted paircable. Eliminating the need for bulky AC adapters, the Hubenhances the reliability of Ethernet devices such as IP telephones,wireless LAN access points and Web-cameras. 

PowerDsine 4012 provides a cost-effective way to distributeback-up power for Ethernet terminals in conjunction with acentralized UPS. This capability increases IP telephony servicereliability by ensuring that IP phones keep working in the eventof power failures.

 In addition to greater network availability, the PowerDsine 4012Hub reduces installation and maintenance costs by eliminatingthe need for expensive installation of standard power cables.This is particularly true in hard-to-reach places such as ceilings,where wireless access points or Web cameras are located. 

The PowerDsine 4012 Hub sits in tandem to an existing Ethernetor Fast Ethernet switch and connects to standard Category 5cabling. This architecture protects customer investment both inCategory 5 infrastructure and in Ethernet switch equipment.

Features
• Remote Power Feeding - The PowerDsine 4012Power over LAN Hub is connected to existing Ethernetor Fast Ethernet infrastructure and connects to standardCategory 5 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) and shieldedtwisted-pair (STP) cabling that links PCs to the network.By sending -48Vdc over 100 meters, Ethernet terminals,including IP phones, wireless LAN access points and Webcameras, can utilize power provided from the PowerDsine4012 Hub (Figure 1). If a device is incompatible with thePower over LAN Hub, an external splitter is installed.The splitter separates the DC voltage and the Ethernetdata signal into two separate wires, terminating at apower port and a RJ-45 jack (Figure 2). 

• Scalable Solution - The PowerDsine 4012 Hub supportsup to twelve Ethernet terminals. PowerDsine's Powerover LAN Family includes the PowerDsine 4001, 4006,4012 and 4024 Power over LAN Hubs featuring 1, 6, 12and 24 port solutions, respectively. Multiple hubs canbe deployed in the wiring cabinet to support moreterminals providing a simple, cost effective method forexpanding the network as requirements evolve.

 • Centralized Power Distribution - IT managers canprotect each IP phone with a small UPS, but the cost ofinstalling and maintaining hundreds would be prohibitive.Deploying Power over LAN in conjunction with a centralUPS provides a cost≠effective way to distribute back-uppower and ensures uninterrupted operation of IPtelephony even when main electrical power failuresoccur.

 • Smart Ethernet Wiring - The PowerDsine 4012 Hubdirectly transfers data transmissions coming from Ethernetterminals on pairs 1/2 and 3/6. It acts as a normal patchpanel for Ethernet connections ensuring continuous andreliable performance. Power is provided only on theunused Ethernet pairs 4/5 and 7/8. 

• Minimal Crosstalk and Insertion Losses - Normally,introducing DC into an Ethernet network would increasenoise susceptibility of the system, thereby degradingthe Ethernet signal. PowerDsine’s state-of-the-art designensures that power distribution does not interfere withconcurrent network operation. The Hub includes highperformance, robust RJ-45 shielded connectors, intelligent wiring layout and optimized line termination enabling the power over LAN to operate as a fully integrated Device.

• Advanced Auto-Sensing Algorithm - The PowerDsine4012 Hub features a unique load auto-sensing algorithmthat automatically detects Power over LAN enabledEthernet terminals and supplies inline power. The perport, sophisticated power control and monitoring circuitenables fast installation while ensuring continuous properoperation of devices, such as ordinary NICs, that do notexpect power on their Ethernet connection.

 • Easy to Use - The PowerDsine 4012 Hub is a plug-andplay product. Once turned on, it will automatically detectall Power over LAN Ethernet terminals and supply inlinepower immediately, providing the terminal applicationis power-ready. All port interfaces are located on thefront panel for easy access. 

• Compact Size - The standard 19", 1.5U Power overLAN Hub allows easy rack mounting while consumingminimal space in the wiring closet

 • Concise LED Displays - The PowerDsine 4012 Hubprovides real-time network monitoring through the frontpanel, including two LED per port indicating normal andoverload or short circuit conditions. Additional LEDindicators are included for main power supply and internalself-test monitoring. 

• Wide Range AC Input or DC Input - The PowerD4012 Hub is available with AC, DC or AC/DC input pThe hub supports a wide range of AC input voltag90-264Vac and DC voltages at -24Vdc or -48Vdc.  • Standard Compliance - PowerDsine 4012 is fullycompatible with the 802.3 standard when no inlinpower is supplied. The 802.3 standard does not inspecification for providing power over the Ethernet Recognizing the importance of standards in emerging markets, PowerDsine is a founding member of the IEEE 802.3af DTE Power via Media Dependent Interface task force, the standard-setting body for sending power over standard LAN infrastructure.
