FACT: These were made decades ago with Philips manufacturing Technology

Niš was chosen to be the center for the development of the electronics industry. It began in 1948 when, at the invitation of the Government of Yugoslavia, a group of German experts with necessary support staff started developing X-ray tubes, radio tubes, and electronic receiving tubes. The first experts were the hint of organized education of young local people to work in the industry, especially the electronics industry. The production of the first electronic components, radio and X-ray tubes, and ready-made devices, radios and X-ray machines began already in the early fifties. The development was continued with constant consideration of the needs in the sphere of development of the electronics industry in the world, especially new technologies, then permanent education of highly-qualified staff in the fields of electronics, mechanical engineering, chemistry and physics.

Of particular importance was the excellent business cooperation with the leading European and world companies such as Philips, Siemens, RCA, Honeywell, etc. Various business forms - licenses, cooperation, consulting, technological support, commercial arrangements, conditioned the necessary dynamics of progress, development of new products and their marketing. In the period from the end of the fifties to the end of the eighties, Electronics Industry Niš (Elektronska industrija Niš) or, formerly, Institute for the Production of Radio Sets and X-ray Machines (Zavodi RR), was the leader of Yugoslavia and the Balkans in the field of electronics.

HISTORY OF PHILIPS INCLUDING YUGOSLAVIA

When the famous inventor Thomas Alva Edison in 1879 demonstrated his electric light bulb in Menlo Park, New York, it caught the attention of a Dutch student of mechanical engineering, then 21, called GERARD PHILIPS (1858-1942).

The foundation of Philips & Co. was founded 12 years later (1891) in the city of Eindhoven (Netherlands) with an initial capital of 75,000 Guilders financed by his father, the banker Frederik Philips (1830-1900) and 10 employees, with the purpose of manufacturing carbon filaments for incandescent lamps and luminaries in a room of 18 x 20 feet.

After one year of operation, he receives a package of bulbs from a major manufacturer of candles, its daily production rising to 500 lamps in 1895. It was a big production for a small country like the Netherlands. This time due to financial difficulties, he started thinking about acting outside the country, and for that, invites his younger brother Anton Philips (1874-1951) to participate in this challenge.

The business thrives and before the turn of the century, is the largest PHILIPS lamp factory in the world. In 1912 the name PHILIPS & CO is changed to "NV Philips Gloeilampenfabrieken" (publicly traded company) and in 1914 it opened the famous physics laboratory (NATLAB), where many inventions, researches and discoveries are made.

During the the first world war its products are marketed in America and France. In 1918 Philips begins producing radio TUBES or valves. A curious fact is that Philips just after starting the manufacture of valves, has launched a series of low power filament suitable for use in battery operated equipment, (very common back then) terming them "miniwatt". Later, the term miniwatt tonou become synonymous with Philips valves.

In the 1920’s, as part of a successful program of diversification in its activities, the Philips group is present in many countries, such as Spain, Poland, Norway, China, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Finland, Czechoslovakia, Brazil, England Denmark, Austria, Hungary, Germany and Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Portugal, Algeria, Yugoslavia, Israel, Luxembourg, India, Greece, Turkey and Japan. All branches are supplied with materials manufactured by Matrix in Eindhoven, Holland.

From that moment on, Philips goes to patent their innovations in the areas of radiography (RX) and receiving radio waves.

PHILIPS also commonly in the early '20s, began production of a number of components used in the construction of electronics such as battery charger, the rectifier, and components for transmission and reception.

In the early 1950's, it opened a Philips Factory in the Slavic city of NIS, for the import and sale of products manufactured Philips in Eindhoven.
