HI FELLOW COLLECTORS!  IF YOU KNOW OF OR ARE LOOKING FOR OF ONE OF A KIND OFFERINGS OF VINTAGE ROCK 'N ROLL RADIO SHOWS, HOSTED BY NATIONALLY KNOWN DJ's, YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE.

IF YOU LOVE THE MUSIC OF THE 60's AND 70's AND ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THE DJ's THAT PRESENTED IT, YOU MAY KNOW THE NAMES BILL DRAKE & LESTER CHENAULT.  THIS SERIES WAS THEIR BRAIN CHILD AND THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PRODUCTION THAT THEY EVER MADE AND LIKELY THE MOST SUCCESSFUL EARLY ROCK SERIES EVER PRODUCED.

THESE ARE GREAT RADIO SHOWS FROM THOSE VINTAGE YEARS OF RADIO SHOWS WHEN DJ'S WERE ALLOWED TO BE DJ'S AND NOT JUST ROBOTS PLAYING 'MOST MUSIC', AND WHEN SHOWS HAD SPECIAL RARE INTERVIEWS AND OFTEN FASCINATING THEMES, AND NOT JUST THE SAME MUSIC EVERY HOUR, OVER AND OVER. YOU WILL LOVE NOT ONLY THIS SHOW BUT ALL THE SHOWS LISTED BY KEITH'S KOLLECTABLES.

AND, THEY ARE RARE BUT HOW DO YOU DEFINE RARENESS??  LET ME TELL YOU!

FIRST OF ALL THERE WERE NO MORE THAN 175 LP OR CD SETS OF EACH SHOW PRESSED.  THIS IS BECAUSE THEY WERE SENT ONLY TO THE AFFILIATE RADIO STATION IN THE TOP 175 RADIO MARKETS IN THE COUNTRY AND ONLY ONE STATION IN EACH MARKET COULD AIR THE SHOW.

STATIONS IN MARKETS BELOW THE TOP 175 (THERE ARE 306 MARKETS IN THE UNITED STATES) HAD TO PRESENT THE SHOW THROUGH THE SATELLITE FEED OF THE SHOW FROM THE SYNDICATOR OF THE SERIES)

AND, DUE TO CONTRACTUAL LEGAL OBLIGATIONS, EACH RADIO STATION WAS ALLOWED TO AIR EACH SHOW EXACTLY ONCE AND NO MORE.

SO, MOST RADIO STATIONS JUST THREW THEM AFTER AIRING SINCE THEY WERE USELESS TO THE STATION AFTER AIRING.  THERE IS NO TELLING HOW MANY OF EACH SHOW SURVIVED.

WHO KNOWS - THIS COULD BE THE ONLY ONE.

WELCOME EVERYONE TO KEITH'S KOLLECTABLES, ONE OF EBAY'S PREMIERE BUYERS AND SELLERS OF PRISTINE RARE RADIO SHOWS OF ALL GENRES ALONG WITH OTHER GREAT VINTAGE AMERICANA.

PLEASE  NOTE FELLOW COLLECTOR FRIENDS THAT WHEN YOU BUY FIVE OR MORE ITEMS FROM MY STORE AT ONE TIME THAT EBAY WILL IMMEDIATELY DISCOUNT YOUR INVOICE BY 20%  IT IS THE LEAST I CAN DO FOR MY FELLOW COLLECTORS WHO LOOK FOR GREAT DEALS AS MUCH AS I DO!

AND IF YOU COMBINE THE ABOVE WITH SOME SELECTIONS FROM KEITH'S KOLLECTABLES WEEKLY HALF PRICE AND REDUCED PRICE SPECIALS, YOU WILL SAVE EVEN MORE....MUCH MORE!!  JUST CLICK ON THE TAB ON KEITH'S HOME PAGE TO SEE ALL THE VARIED OFFERINGS TO WHICH MORE ARE ADDED ALMOST DAILY.

KEITH'S KOLLECTABLES IS THE HOME FOR QUALITY RADIO SHOWS IN LP OR CD FROM MY COLLECTION OF OVER 15,000 RARE, DISTINCT SHOWS IN PERFECT CONDITION, MOST WITH CUE SHEETS

LET ME FIRST DESCRIBE THIS CLASSIC SHOW  DRAKE CHENAULT HISTORY OF ROCK & ROLL    AND THEN IF YOU DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT RADIO SHOWS, PLEASE READ ON FOR MY BRIEF 'RADIO SHOWS 101' DESCRIPTION AND HOW I GOT INTO COLLECTING SOME 35 YEARS AGO.

THIS RARE SHOW CAME FROM THE LEGENDARY DRAKE-CHENAULT PRODUCTION TEAM KNOWN AS THE MASTERS OF 60's ROCK RADIO. IT IS CALLED THE HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL.

In the early 70s with AM and FM stations in all market sizes coming under the FCC rule that FM stations and their co owned AM stations could no longer simulcast between their AM and FM,  and following the large market model, Drake-Chenault entered the radio syndication business in earnest, making taped formats available to non-RKO Broadcasting stations where they got their start. Drake-Chenault syndication established a studio at 8399 Topanga Canyon Blvd. in Canoga Park, CA. Among the early format offerings were Classic Gold, created for KHJ-FM (which became KRTH), Solid Gold, Hitparade and Great American Country. The original 48-hour History of Rock and Roll,  which had been created for KHJ, was made available nationwide, and was followed by other syndicated "special" programs.

IN 1984, THIS 48 HOUR HISTORY WAS UPDATED AND SYNDICATED TO AFFILIATE RADIO STATIONS IN THE FORM OF 48 ONE HOUR SHOWS.  RADIO STATIONS RECEIVED THE SHOWS IN MONTHLY VOLUMES, ONE SHOW FOR EVERY WEEK IN THE MONTH.  SO, RADIO STATIONS HAD A YEAR'S WORTH OF PROGRAMMING IN WHICH THEY COULD SELL THEIR OWN LOCAL ADVERTISING.  THERE WERE NO NATIONAL ADVERTISING ON ANY OF THE HOUR SHOWS SO EACH HOUR'S SHOW IS DIVIDED INTO SEGMENTS.  AFTER EACH SEGMENT, LOCAL STATIONS COULD INSERT THEIR OWN ADS BEFORE RETURNING TO THE NEXT SEGMENT OF THE SHOW.

THIS YEAR WAS THE ONLY YEAR IN WHICH THE SHOW WAS SYNDICATED ON LPs TO RADIO STATIONS.

EACH HOUR OF EACH SHOW STARTED OUT WITH AN ARTIST FEATURE THAT LASTED THROUGH THE FIRST TWO SEGMENTS OF THE HOUR.  THEN FOLLOWED ANOTHER THREE SEGMENTS, EACH WITH A DIFFERENT THEME.

OTHER BROADCAST COMPANIES BUILT ON THIS SUCCESSFUL CONCEPT AND PRODUCED LONG FORM SPECIALS FOR THEIR RADIO STATIONS, USUALLY MEANT FOR BROADCAST OVER MAJOR HOLIDAYS LIKE THE FOURTH OF JULY, LABOR DAY, CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S SPECIALS.

THIS HOUR AIRED ON MARCH 20, 1984 AND WAS SHOW #H841-13

SO WHAT ARE THE BIG QUESTIONS IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT RADIO SHOWS?

LET ME TELL YOU BUT FIRST....

Allow me tell you my own personal story of discovering the wonder of radio shows.

I discovered radio shows quite by accident while reading one of my favorite (long since departed) magazines called "Discoveries" (It was later bought by the same company that publishes "Goldmine" which I personally always considered a lesser publication, but that is another story.

This was before ebay became the driving force in radio show sales (and everything else) in the later 1990's.

I was especially attracted in "Discoveries" to a two page (or more) spread in each issue by a guy called "The Old Hippie".

Let me tell you, the Old Hippie had it all.  He was a real pioneer.  Way before anyone knew what radio shows even were let alone that they could be bought as rarities, he had the market cornered.

Most shows that he advertised were way beyond my budget but I drooled over those pages every issue and once in awhile I could afford one or two.

Now, I have attempted in my own humble way to take on the mantle of "The Old Hippie".  I have listed over 11,000 unique radio shows of all genres for you all to drool over, and most at prices, hopefully, that collectors can better afford!  I want to make available to collectors what I could not afford and especially in these days of higher prices and lesser availability.

Radio shows are harder and harder to find in quantity and the prices for the ones still out there just go higher and higher as they disappear from the market.  However, because of my large presence on eBay, I am often contacted with selling offers, some of which I take advantage of and some I have to pass on because of the prices. I have found that by buying in bulk, even when many or most of the shows are lesser known but still amazing shows, I can offer the best prices on all titles.

And, even though I price all my shows so that I make very little on each sale, most of which I use to buy more shows to make available to you, if you find the price too high, let me know and we can likely work out something you can afford.  I want everyone to be able to have what they want for their collection.

So, again, what is a radio show?

Radio Shows are syndicated productions provided to radio stations usually on what is called a 'barter arrangement'.  There were several large and small distributors who supplied broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break, although in recent years, through bigger companies absorbing smaller ones and many going out of business because the competition was just too fierce, there are only a few big syndicators left.  This is sad because it has led to more homogenization of different formats and selection available for stations and often less creativity in the shows.

Most aired on Saturday or Sundays.  They often feature some of the best known voices for their genre from across the country thus the Dick Clark's and Casey Kasem's and Rick Dees and Dick Bartley and so many others.

People collect them for various reasons.

Some just collect the series because they like it and want them all.

Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music.  Rather than an album by the artist or a compilation downloaded through iTunes or wherever, they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and always with dj presentations which were very entertaining.

Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments.

Some collect commercials and as I said, even these old vintage commercials now bring back memories.

Radio shows were first distributed on reel to reel tape or on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR.  Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes.

These shows become rarer and rarer every day because the people who buy them hold on to them.

The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase.   I have prided myself since the start to provide the best and fairest cost with a no holds barred guarantee that you will be happy or I refund your money.

I sell them for near what I bought them for.  I give volume discounts and discount postage always.  As the postal service increases their rates, my shipping rates over the years has decreased.

And, I have one of the biggest radio show libraries in the world consisting of over fifteen thousand of shows, so many that I don't even know all that I have and am sometimes amazed when I go to look for one show and find another that I did not realize I had.

Finally, it is Americana at its best.  Whether the show be from the 60's or 2000's, rock, countdown, oldies, country, classical, religious, jazz or big band, it is unique and home grown.

And you just can't find them anywhere.

Even record stores that still exist will rarely have any.

Radio shows are wonderful representations of the real golden age of radio at least music wise.  And every  one you buy is an original, not a copy, not a remake - all are limited editions. Once you get hooked, like me, it is a love affair for life!

So, I hope you will join me in this and many more  wondrous voyages on the 'SS Keith's Kollectables' as we take exciting journeys together exploring the treasures of radio shows we grew up with and thought were long lost.

May the lost be found!!

SO HERE ARE THE BIG QUESTIONS:

 WHAT IS A RADIO SHOW?

 WHY COLLECT THEM?

 WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?

Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them.

First allow me tell you my own personal story of discovering the wonder of radio shows.

I discovered radio shows quite by accident while reading one of my favorite (long since departed) magazines called "Discoveries" (It was later bought by the same company that publishes "Goldmine" which I personally always considered a lesser publication, but that is another story.

So, again, what is a radio show?

Radio Shows are syndicated productions by one of several large and small distributors who supply broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break.

Many air on Saturday or Sunday mornings, afternoons or evenings or less often on weekends or during overnight segments.

Rather than an album by the artist or a compilation, they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and often with dj presentation which is very entertaining.

Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments.

Some collect commercials especially old car commercials but certainly not limited to only those.

AND, these shows are in limited quantity.

They were pressed just for syndicated stations and many have just a few in circulation.  Some of the more popular shows may have as many as a few hundred of each week's show that survived but think about it.  A few hundred for some 350 million Americans and millions of overseas collectors who look for unique presentations of their favorite artists or form of music.

Many radio stations just tossed them away after airing because they could never be aired again due to the time limited commercials and the limited storage space at most radio stations (believe me I know, I worked at one for many years!)

SO they are increasingly hard to find.

They were first distributed on 16 inch transcription discs, reel to reel tape or  lp, later on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR.  Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes.

These shows become rarer and rarer every day because the people who buy them hold on to them.  The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase.

Remember, when you buy this show, not only will you own the tunes but also interspersed between songs is fascinating commentary on the artists and songs and wonderful interview segments and other features.

Also, keep in mind that this and all  shows are not just about the music - the music can be found anywhere.  It is the mixture of great music and great announcing that makes it so entertaining.

As well, it is a piece of radio history.  You just aren't going to find these shows anymore.  Think of what they will be worth in a few years!  (IF you wanted to sell.)  I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price

It is a great show and would be a valuable addition to your collection

Good Luck and God Bless You.
