CRUSADES Trophaea Mariana Nieremberg Jerusalem Victories Ottoman Mariology
Juan Eusebio Nieremberg was a 17th-century
Spanish Jesuit who is best remembered for his lectures and teachings on
mysticism. While Nieremberg wrote several works, one of his best books was ‘Trophaea Mariana’ – an apologetic
treatise on the mercy and victories of God describing countless historical events of the Crusades
which helped shaped the growth and spread of Christianity. Nieremberg describes
some of the following:
·
The 8th-century liberation of Constantinople from the Greeks
·
Emperor Basil I defeated by the Agarenes in 886
·
Defeat of the Turks in 1480
·
The defeat of the city of Ascalon in 1153 by Jerusalem
