1964 Fender Blackface Concert Amp Head (Rare Mod) /w Matching Fender 1960s Bassman Cabinet /w 2x12 Guitar Speakers
This is a very rare and special Fender combo. There were no Concert amps issued in the 50/60s by Fender as a 'head only' unit so this one represents a rare exception. The head was made using the upper portion of an original Fender Concert amp cabinet that had had speakers in it at one time. Cabinet modification was done many years ago with quality in mind. The resulting modification to the head-only design is solid and sturdy although it may be slightly deeper than other Fender heads. The guitar player who ordered the modification realized how much lighter the Concert amp would be just as a head unit. This also makes it much easier to carry the amp around to gigs and makes it easy to hook up to any cabinet (although the included Bassman bottom is an ideal match-up). These two pieces have a serious retro-look. The original 1964 Blackface Fender Concert Guitar Amp combines perfectly with a 1960s Vintage Fender Bassman bottom. The bottom was upgraded with two contemporary 12 inch guitar speakers (do not recall the type). Both 12 inch speakers have good tone and moderate cone breakup that compliments the original Concert amp sound.
Color scheme is ALL black...Fender blackface amp, black tolex, black speaker grill cloth and black speakers...maybe we should call this look the 'Darth Vader' of Fender amps.
This vintage pre-CBS Concert amp from the 60s is authentic, still has its original trannies and the original Fender circuit remains intact. Only defective caps and old resistors have been replaced as needed. The chassis serial number and all transformer stamped numbers match up perfectly with a 1963/1964 manufacture date for this Fender amp. All transformers are original with no substitutions. Please reference photos for all date stamped codes which may be easily validated using available Fender data. PLEASE NOTE: Only defect is that the vibrato effect is either disconnected or not working.
