Bringing Ancient Egypt to Life

Rare Small Ancient Egyptian Canopic Chest housing 4 Ancient Canopic Jars

  • Ancient Egyptian canopic jars were containers used to hold the internal organs of deceased individuals during mummification. These jars were made of various materials such as pottery, limestone, or alabaster and were shaped like human or animal figures. Each jar represented one of the four sons of the god Horus and contained a specific organ: the stomach, liver, lungs, or intestines. These jars were placed in the tomb alongside the mummy to ensure their deceased could continue their journey in the afterlife with their organs intact
