GT2540 is one of the latest tripods from Gitzo, which is made of the latest 6X carbon fiber tube. Carbon fiber is a strong and durable material, and it is lighter than both basalt and aluminum.

Gitzo recommends this tripod for lightweight camcorders, spotting scopes and DSLRs with 200mm lenses, up to a 300mm maximum. This means that this tripod is not designed for heavy weight equipments, such as bird photography with a 500mm lens.
