Sony Alpha 16-50mm DT
SSM f/2.8
Standard Zoom Lens
Mint Minus Condition
Here is probably what many
consider to be the perfect aps-c standard zoom for Sony Alpha. It is a huge
step up from the 18-55mm kit lens in so many ways and if you want to take your
camera’s image quality to a superior level, this is how you do it without
breaking the bank. A quick review online and you will see that this is a very
highly rated lens.
This is an Alpha mount lens
and you will need an adapter to use it on E Mount cameras.
This particular lens is in mint minus condition. (S/N 19171xx) There
is a bit of light wear around the leading edge of the lens body and a couple of
minor bumps near the zoom lock switch.
The glass is pristine outside a small (2mm) coating mark on the front element, with no fungus or haze inside. There are a few dust specks which, along with the coating mark, will not affect image quality.
Mechanically, the aperture is
clean and snappy. The zoom and focus move smoothly and the zoom has a nice
deliberate resistance as a new lens should have. The grips are clean and look
new. The mount is unmarked as well.
Both
caps are included.
The standard zoom is the
primary lens for most photographers and 70-90% of all image captures will be
with this type of lens. If you are going to upgrade one lens in your kit, it
makes sense to put the money where it will make the biggest impact in the image
quality of your shooting and this lens will do that perfectly.
This lens provides a
significantly wider field of view at 16mm than the kit. A 2mm increase in focal
length doesn’t sound like much but at the wide end, it truly is visually. And
at a fixed f/2.8 maximum aperture, you have exceptional low light capability
across the focal range. Double the light gathering of the kit compared to the
f/5.6 at 55mm.
Image quality (sharpness, distortions, color etc.) are all much better in this lens too and very consistent across the focal range. Performance is already very good at 2.8 and improves as you stop down a little. Upgraded focus to SSM which is smooth, silent and fast is a really nice feature which of course is IF.
