This is two books in one because George was two people in one. The first two-thirds of the book is a great factoid on show business. The last third is a political man  So few people remember George Murphy these days, but he was once one of the most well known (and liked) song and dance men in Hollywood. He went on to become a US Senator for California and encouraged a fellow actor named Ronnie Reagan to get more involved in politics- which may make some love him and others hate him. He was a part of establishing the Screen Actors Guild, danced alongside greats such as Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, and Eleanor Powell, and almost never got the girl. A seemingly moderate Republican, it is very interesting to see how Murphy transitioned from Broadway star to Hollywood to politician. And if you've seen his movies, you can totally hear his voice in the writing.

A great insight into how movies were made in the studio era.
