1998 S&M Dirt Bike mid school build, S&M and Profile parts.


This was my teenage dream bike, which I finally managed to build 20 something years later. It took around 6 months to source the parts I wanted including NOS profile stock from their US factory, but after 1 lap of the pump track I realised that 20” wheels are not for me as I’m definitely no longer an agile teenager. Instead this was going to be hanging on the wall and back to 26” I go.

So to that end it’s been ridden once for less than 10 minutes.

Most parts are new and I tried to build it, give or take, to what I would’ve ridden back then.

The only real exceptions being that I’ve gone for a pivotal seating option (S&M long Johnson post and S&M fat pivotal saddle) because let’s face it railed seats are a menace.

I’ve also put S&M mainline tyres front and rear, sure a set of comp 3’s would have been more in keeping with the timeline, but I always preferred a fatter tyre.


Braking is dealt with by a diatech magic 990 and single finger tech 77 lever (left side as I’m not American) S&M cable and strap.


Cranks are profile 3 piece, with a NOS profile tri-fan 47t ring, I’ll also supply an anodised red profile imperial 36t ring for a more street set up.


Rear wheel is Odyssey hazard lite rim with 48 spoke hazard cassette for that nice coasting purr.

1998 dirt bike frame - frameset has been stripped and re-powder coated with new decals applied.
