Chinese Jun ware Guanyin vase by Kong Jia Jun Kiln (孔家钧窑), contemporary, 20-21 century

孔家钧窑蚯蚓走泥纹观音瓶

This Jun ware features “earthworm tracks” under the opalescent glaze. It was nearly impossible to make two identical Jun wares, as their appearance derived from the vagaries of the kiln. The glaze on this vase was invented by Xiangqing Kong (孔相卿) at Kong Jia Jun Kiln, who is recognized as a national treasure master of Jun ware in China. The vase is covered with an opalescent glaze that appears blue to the eye, and then a copper pigment was blown. It developed a dynamic surface pattern, with areas of purple appearing upon a robin’s egg blue ground, sometimes highlighted with splashes of vibrant red or green.

Dimension: 12.6 x 5.1 in. (32 x 13 cm); good condition
