REPLACEMENT FELT RUBBER LINERS
for the TAILGATE WINDOW SIDE CHANNELS
(INSIDE OF TAILGATE)
Inside of the tailgate, there are two metal U-channels (one on each side) lined with felt rubber. The tailgate window rolls down inside of them. They guide the tailgate window down into the tailgate.
There are two RIVETS attached to each metal channel that secure the rubber in the channel. I have sold many of these and most people do not reuse the rivets or use screws. The rubber should just push into the channel and remain secure when the window rolls down. You could also run a bead of silicone adhesive inside the metal channels.
Some of the early to mid 70's Jeeps used a wider metal channel (7/8" inside measurement versus 5/8" inside measurement). If you have the wider channel, the rubber won't fit as tightly.

Instuctions for Felt Rubber Replacement inTailgate Window Side Channels :
- Remove the tailgate glass
- Remove the carpet over the tailgate (including the metal luggage strips, if applicable)
- Remove the access cover
- Pry off the round metal clips holding the lifter channel to the regulator arms
- Slide the glass & lifter channel out of the tailgate (you might
need to remove the inner or outer tailgate wipe to have more room)
- Use a large phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws on
each side of the tailgate that hold the side channels in place
- Remove the existing slide channels
- Remove the old, dried out rubber from the two channels
- Insert the new rubber channels (use a bead of silicone adhesive if you prefer)
- Installation is the reverse of removal
